The Kindersley Klippers have finished up a four game road trip this past weekend with games against the La Ronge Ice Wolves and the Flin Flon Bombers. Kindersley played each team twice and managed to earn 3 wins with only a single loss, meaning 6 points in the standings were earned.

On Friday night, the Klippers had their only loss on the trip when the Bombers found a way to win the game 5-1.

After the first period, Flin Flon led 1-0 and out-shot the Klippers 14-7. It was in the second period, the Bombers made it 2-0 just 2:34 into the frame and they weren't finished. The Klippers showed some fight by cutting the lead in half when Curtis Peck scored a power-play goal, assisted by Jordan Funk and Taylor Derynck. It was Peck's second goal of the season, but would end up being the only goal scored by the Klippers.

Following the Klippers lone goal, the Bombers scored two more goals in a span of just over one minute. The two goals made the score 4-1 in favour of the Bombers halfway through the game, and made the Klippers make a goaltending change. Starting goaltender Justen Close was pulled after only making 19 saves on 23 shots to allow four goals.

Unfortunately, the change didn't cause any boost or spark for the Klippers as the Bombers went on to win the game 5-1. Flin Flon outshot Kindersley 44-29.

Saturday was a completely different story for the Klippers who went on to win in a shootout, by a score of 2-1.

Both goalies were solid from the opening face-off, until the end of the shoot-out. The Klippers gave Justen Close the nod in net, and he was able to give his team a chance at victory by stopping 49 of 50 shots through 60 minutes of regulation and 5 minutes of 3-on-3 overtime.

Brendan Newton, Flin Flon's starting goaltender, stopped 46 of 47 shots through his 65 minutes of playing time.

Kindersley lone-goal scorer was Jordan Funk, assisted by Curtis Peck. It was Funk's fourth goal of the season, and happened to be the first goal of the game.

Flin Flon tied the game up in the third period when Donavan Houle-Villeneuve scored with just 7 minutes left in the third period.

For the Klippers to earn two points in overtime was nothing short of a miracle after being out-shot 8-1 in the five minutes of overtime. Close came up big, and got his team to the shootout. Close wasn't done there, because he stopped all three shooters on the Bombers.

Kindersley's lone goal scorer in the shootout came in the third round when Josh Fletcher put the Klippers on top to win the game 2-1.

Kindersley has played a league-high 10 games up to date and are currently tied for first in their division with the Battlefords North Stars each with 11 points. The North Stars have only played 6 games, and have four games in hand on the Klippers.

The Klippers will play five more games in the month of October with their next game being played at home against the Melville Millionaires on Saturday October 14th.
