A prestigious hockey tournament in the province took place over the weekend in Swift Current featuring the very best hockey players in the entire province at the bantam and midget level.

Jessie Herner from Kindersley and Calli Arnold from Dodsland cracked the roster of Team Saskatchewan which has players spread out from all different areas. Herner is going into her first year of midget hockey for the 2017-18 season, while Arnold will have one more year in Bantam being born in 2003.

There were only five girls born in 2003 that made the roster, including Arnold. She plays at the forward position and brought a scoring touch with her to the games.

Herner was one of the team's defencemen and her presence was felt on the blue line with crisp passing, a great shot and excellent work on the break-out.

Team Saskatchewan won their opening game 5-1 against Pembina Valley, and made it two games in a row with an 8-3 win over Central Plains Capitals.

The Showcase Tournament is meant to give all players a chance to show off their skills, meaning eqaul playing time for all players on each teams. There is still a focus on winning games, but also keeping in mind that players are just getting ready for the regular season to start later this September.
