The West Central Events Centre is hosting a new hockey academy that is set up for middle school students from Kindersley. Approximately 15 students from the Elizabeth Middle School are getting the academy experience. The students are from grade 5 to grade 8 and the academy started in September. Former NHL and WHL coach Willie Desjardins came to Kindersley for a meeting on June 28 to discuss the possibility of having a hockey academy this fall. Desjardins, along with Dean Dorsett, whose son Derek played in the NHL and WHL for the coach was there to try to get the academy off the floor and running. Despite the programs and schedules being in the place for the school year, the hockey academy is up and running. This hockey academy would not have gotten off the ground without the help and support from the two principals from 2 schools in Kindersley. Blain Hilbig , the principal of Kindersley Composite School and Tammy Diemert, the principal from Elizabeth Middle School, were very instrumental in getting the kids into the new hockey academy. After two months of planning the two were able to make to the possibility of the hockey academy a reality. Members of the Iron Horse Klippers are running the on ice and dry land of the academy that takes place on Mondays and Thursdays with the students being let out of class at 2:10 pm and are on the ice from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.
