Racing has been put to a halt in Kindersley so far in 2017 with the Flatlanders Speedway having flooding problems with rainfall.

But, organizers may have found a solution to save part of the racing schedule.

According to Flatlanders organizer Jason Hankewich, the group has been in contact with the landowners as they make plans to shift the track over to higher ground. Members are hoping to turn the bleachers 180 degrees to face South, which would allow the group to create a new race track on elevated land.

Races have been put on hold in the meantime due to the current track suffering from flooding.

Although, the project will not be possible unless the community steps up and contributes to the plan. Hankewich mentioned how Flatlanders organizers will be looking for residents to volunteer with equipment or services in order to complete the project in the next few weeks. If anyone is interested in lending a hand, whether offering equipment or their time, they are to contact Hankewich or any other members from the race committee.

Getting the race seasons underway have been hectic for Flatlanders organizers over recent years. Due to the track's location, spring runoff and summer rain has caused the raceway to lie under water and cause races. Last year, races were cancelled at the tail end of the season due to water levels on the track.

Hankewich and the rest of the racers are hoping it will be a different story this summer once a new track is completed.
