West Central hockey player Jakin Lawrence has been representing Team Saskatchewan at the 2019 WHL Cup in Calgary this week. He got on the board with a goal and an assist yesterday in action against Team BC. Team BC won the game 6-4.

The WHL Cup consists of teams from British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba. The teams are made up of prospects from AAA midget league across Western Canada which include all who were drafted by WHL teams in the Bantam Draft held this past May. Lawrence was taken in the 6th round (130th overall) by the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Jakin played his minor hockey in the West Central region with the Bantam AA Wheat Kings last season and had a great season putting up 35 points in 31 games to lead the team in scoring. Lawrence is the only player from his current team, the Swift Current Legionnaires, to make the Team Saskatchewan squad.

The Rosetown native has three goals in 11 games for the Legionnaires so far this season. Team Saskatchewan is back in action tonight when they will play Team Alberta at 6 pm.

Vaughn Watterodt is a forward from Rosetown as well and scored for the team yesterday against Team BC along with Lawrence. Watterodt has 2 goals and 2 assists in 9 games played for the Battlefords Stars in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League this season.

We'll have the recap for you on West Central Online Friday morning.
