The Rosetown Minor Athletics Association is now off and running with their normal operations. West Central Online spoke with both RMAA President Kevin Clark, and Rosetown Minor Baseball President Ryan Wickett about the abrupt start to their year.

“It was quite a surprise actually when I saw that come across.” explained Clark when asked about the return to play news, “I kinda had to get to work, figuring out game schedules for our ball players. Our phones started to light up because everybody wanted to get everything organized at the same time.”

The announcement was amazing news for kids, especially since they have only been practicing according to Clark.

“You can only practice for so long before they start losing interest and everything. It’s a good thing.”

At the time of the interview, Clark mentioned it would take about a week to get games in order and that the ball diamonds have been kept in order since the beginning of April.

Following a league meeting, minor ball teams in Rosetown are going to only be playing an exhibition schedule this year according to Ryan Wickett.

“We do have a couple of rookie ball teams, a couple of U11 teams, a U13 team and a U15 team that are going to kind of search out exhibition games this year.”

The minor ball president did show some optimism when it came to competitions later in the year.

“I think we are probably going to probably have a U11 provincial team, we’ll have one entered for provincials and besides that I don’t know where we would go from there.”

Wickett gave credit to Baseball Sask for how quickly the process did end up moving, and commented on how excitement upon the common goal of returning is something that could determine how competitive this season gets.

“I think that’s the part that will really stir things back up. People will look at it like there is an end goal to compete for, and it’s a lot easier on the kids when you have that.”

Wickett made sure to shout-out some of the different coaches involved in the organization that rushed to organize their teams schedule after the abrupt news. One coach put together his U13 team in only 5 days after finishing up on the farm.

The overall goal for the season is not set in stone, but if the early flurry of activity for baseball in 2021 means anything, lots of action will be taking place on the diamonds in Rosetown this spring into summer.
