The second weekend of the SWHL regular season kicks off tonight with one game on the docket. The Luseland Mallards are back home to host the Kindersley Senior Klippers for the first time this winter.
Luseland (0-2-0-0) will be hoping to get their first win of the season after losing last weekend 12-4 to the Outlaws and 8-3 to the Miners. For the Klippers (1-0-0-0), they have a chance to collect win number 2 after they began their return to the league with a 4-3 victory in Biggar last Saturday.
Johnny Calkins and Nick Neurater will make their season debut tonight for the Klippers after serving suspensions to start the schedule. For Calkins, who played his junior hockey with the SJHL's Klippers, he can't wait to start his first game as a Senior Klipper.
Shayne Neigum is now the only Klipper left still serving his suspension. He'll miss Kindersley's next 3 games and before lacing up the skates for the Klippers' home opener on November 24th.
The Klippers managed to hold onto their lead last weekend to grab the 2 points. Although, Biggar made it interesting with a third period goal from Dylan Smith before a couple golden opportunities in the late stages of the game to equalize.
Despite the Mallards dropping their first 2 games of the year, Calkins says the Klippers can't take their opponents lightly.
After tonight's contest, the Senior Klippers will be heading back northwest on Highway 31 to play the Macklin Mohawks on Saturday night. The two met in back-to-back exhibition games earlier this fall where the Mohawks won 7-5 in Kindersley and 10-3 at home. Macklin is looking to bounce back following their 9-4 loss to the Outlaws last Saturday.
Hockey fans can tune in to tonight and tomorrow's games live on CFYM 1210 and CJYM 1330. The pre-game show for this evening's matchup begins at around 8:15 p.m. with puck drop at 8:30 p.m. from the Luseland Memorial Arena.
Saturday night's game in Macklin has opening faceoff at 8:00 p.m. with pre-game at 7:45 p.m. on the radio.
