U21 Curling Provincials were held last weekend, over December 27th to the 31st in Saskatoon. Cody Sutherland of Rosetown and his team were representing at the tournament for the second time in two years.

Sutherland claimed the last possible spot for the provincial event, in the Q-3 Spiel held a month ago.

After losing every game at last years U21 Provincials, Sutherland had made it his goal to at least win one game and improve on that record. The team did more than just that, finishing the tournament with a 3-3 record.

U21 Provincial Results

  • Team Kleiter 8 vs. Team Sutherland 5
  • Team Bernath 8 vs. Team Sutherland 4
  • Team Kinaschuk 6 vs. Team Sutherland 9
  • Team Dales 5 vs. Team Sutherland 7
  • Team Field 3 vs. Team Sutherland 8
  • Team Stewart 7 vs. Team Sutherland 6

Despite three losses through the tournament, Sutherland's playing was on par with other competitors, only losing those games by a few points.

Through the round robin portion of the event, the team placed 3rd in their pool, which advanced them to the Championship Quarterfinals. There they faced Team Stewart and just narrowly lost 7 - 6.

Even with the loss, the team placed in the top six of the twelve teams competing.

The team is composed of Cody Sutherland, Bruce Krepps, Doug Sroka and Jack Reid.
