The recent extreme cold temperatures that passed through the province recently is starting to effect pipes and sewer lines in different areas.

For several days over the Christmas week, the province was blanketed under extreme cold warnings with temperatures hovering around -30 C with wind chill values at -45 C.

There has already been up to 20 claims made for water damages or broken pipelines made during the stretch throughout the Christmas holidays. When a house is left absent for a long period of time, the chances of pipes bursting becomes much greater.

If you happen to be leaving your house for a longer period of time for a holiday, it's very important that you have someone come over to your house to make sure everything is working fine. Other options include having a monitored alarm system that can set off water warnings at any given time.

Another important aspect in your house is making sure that your furnace is being inspected regularly and can be done by heating or plumbing companies.
