Local “celebrities” are getting ready to hit the dance floor this weekend for the second annual Ballroom Blitz. A total seven teams will be vying for top spot as they collect votes and raise money for a charity or organization of their choice.

Among the celebrities are Craig Bews, Lisa King and BJ Sommerville from Eatonia, Matt Owens and Brooke Thome from Eston and Joel MacDonald and Chris Oscar from Kindersley. For the past seven weeks the chosen locals have been practising with their dance partners who are by many peoples standards, dance pro’s, as they work on perfecting a routine to perform on the big night.

Chris Oscar is the principal at Westberry Elementary in Kindersley, him and his dance-pro-partner, Yvette Shuh, have been practicing twice a week leading up to the show and he stated, “You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to be in sync with someone for three minutes." Oscar and Shuh, along with the other teams will have three minutes to showcase their dedication from the past weeks. Oscar didn’t want to spoil the surprise of the dance they have planned but described one portion as a funky line dance.

The duo will not be hanging up their dance shoes after Saturdays finale either. As promised to his students, they will be doing a special performance at the school titled, “Who Wants To See Mr. Oscar Dance?” All he is asking in return for showing off his new talents is a $2 donation for the cause he is dancing for, the food programs at all three schools in Kindersley.

Although Oscar and Shuh have been dedicated to their practices, other dancers seem to be getting a little extra help of their own. Lisa King is Mrs. King to her students at Eaton School in Eatonia, and they recently posted a video showcasing some moves of their own and supporting her endeavor.

Currently Oscar has raised $250 claiming third place and King is sitting fifth with $120 and Joel MacDonald sitting at the top of the leader board with $750 raised as of November 6.

The event is set to take place on Friday at the Eatonia Community Hall, with performances on both Friday and Saturday evening.
