UPDATE: April 17 - A fire ban is now in effect for the RM of Winslow No. 319

UPDATE: April 17 - A fire ban is now in effect for the Town of Kindersley and RM of Kindersley. This includes all open fires, all fire pits and all fireworks. Gas and charcoal briquette barbeques with lids and chiminea, free standing front loading fireplaces, are permitted, however, must be supervised at all times during use.

UPDATE: April 16 - A fire ban is now in effect for the RM of Oakdale including the community of Coleville.

We're barely into spring, and dry conditions are already causing problems. This past weekend a grass fire North East of Saskatoon resulted in the destruction of a small farm building, and damage being caused to others. Considering the abnormal dry conditions we're experiencing this could be a trend we see through the coming months.

Beginning the morning of April 16th fire bans will be in effect across most of the West Central Region. Rosetown fire chief Dennis Ogg recently talked with West Central news room about the ban.

"Yeah we had a little bit of rain, it doesn't help much. The wind has probably taken it back to the dry conditions, of which it's extremely dry out there."

The ban is in effect for the Rural Municipalities of:

  • St. Andrews
  • Marriott
  • Mountain View
  • Pleasant Valley

"The ban doesn't effect Rosetown," Chief Ogg added. "open fires are already prohitited with in town. You should be alright if you have a legal fire pit, if you're going to use it."

West Central Online will update the Fire Ban list as more municipalities make their anouncements.
