In an effort to provide more accurate details about the forecast to those across the country, Environment Canada has released a new app. Titled 'Weather CAN', the Environment Canada hopes to cut out the middle man with a lot of other weather apps where instead of Environment Canada providing their tools and information for others to send out, this provides the information directly from the source. Meteorologist Brian Proctor says it should be very beneficial to Canadians.

"Really it's about giving people a better way to stay in touch with things weather-wise no matter where they are. The key thing about the app is that it runs on iOS 10 or up (for iPhones) and will run on most of the Android devices that are on the market."

The app has the option to continually use your location while it isn't even in use to provide push notifications for certain weather emergencies, as well as provide more accurate details towards your forecast.

"The key thing for it more than anything is that it really provides you with up to date forecasts and alerts for the location you are by using your cell phone to realize where you are at times. If you're travelling out of your usual area, the app will give you the most up to date radar and up to date forecast information you."

Compared to other weather apps, this one from Environment Canada is, in theory, supposed to be more reliable when it comes to emergency weather warnings. The app is free for the public.
