The Canadian Government has made a substantial financial commitment to the development of Saskatchewan’s child care and early learning.

$41 million is set to be distributed across the province over the next three years. The aim of the investment is to increase the quality and amount of programs being offered, the amount of programs being offered and to better accommodate those that require intense support.

The initial projections for the funds from the Province include, 1015 new child care centres, 65 of which will be dedicated to francophone children and 1500 new licensed family child care home spaces. The province will also be launching pilot programs that will better suit and support those children who require a significant level of support.

Kala Christmann, a child care provider at a licensed child care centre In Kindersley, said they typically always have a waiting list for families who are needing daycare for their children.

A portion of this funding would create opportunities for qualified individuals to start a daycare out of their home, where the benefits would be two-fold. It would create job opportunities for those interested in opening their own space and would allow families in-and-around Kindersley a higher chance of securing care for their child as needed.

Additional funds will also make room for improvements for the already existing centres, allowing the children to further benefit from the prekindergarten early learning environment.
