Producers will be taking advantage of the warmer weather. Mother nature has finally decided to cooperate with area farmers. With dry, sunny conditions, producers will be able to wrap up their harvest season in the coming weeks.

According to Saskatchewan Agriculture's Crop Report for October 9th to the 15th, the west central region now has 74% combined, up from 70% last week.

Regional Crop Specialist, John Ippolito, said progress has probably come further than though, as the crop report only includes up to Monday, "The last couple of days have been cooperative. I'm anticipating that we're definitely above the 75% mark now."

Producers are still behind the five year average of 90% complete for this time of the year. There is not a lot of crops left on south of Kindersley and Rosetown areas.

Grain that is being pulled off is generally tough or damp. Ippolito said it's a problem many are facing, "Guys are going to harvest tough. Most of the phone calls we've been getting in the last 10 to 14 days have been about operation of grain dyers or natural grain drying systems."

Topsoil moisture on cropland is currently rated at 2% surplus, 82% adequate, 13% short and 3% very short. Hay land and pasture topsoil is rated as 71% adequate, 23% short and 6% very short.

Most crop damage right now can be attributed to the rain or snow. Crops have lodged and downgrading is expected due to sprouting and bleaching.
