Through a collaboration of community support, the Town of Kerrobert has a new handi-bus to ensure continued service for years to come. The bus that was on display during the Kinsmen Pancake Supper earlier this month and will replace the 14-year-old handi-bus that previously provided service to the residents.

Town Councillor, Chad Tetzlaff, said although grants helped fund the project, a lot of support, financially and otherwise from community members is what brought the new bus to life. Donations from Enbridge Pipelines, Kerrobert Kinsmen, Kerrobert Kinettes, Telemiracle Foundation and Neil Charteris Reclamation Service, along with private donations helped fund the new transportation.

The collaboration didn’t end with the bus itself, a decision was made to have a space specifically for the bus. A new overhead door was installed in the curling rink, giving the new bus a home. Tetzlaff added that this project was also the result of many helping hands within the community, all of which he thanked through an announcement letter posted on Facebook.

The appreciation for the new bus has been apparent through comments on Facebook with one user stating, “You don’t realize the importance of this incredible service until you need it”.

Fundraising and grant applications started approximately a year ago and Tetzlaff said the total cost of the new bus rang in at approximately $100,000, all of which was covered through donations and grants.
