Ducks Unlimited continues to beat previous years in donations through their annual fundraising banquet. The non-profit organization held their 37th edition of the banquet in Kindersley this past weekend, raising $43,000.

The night had approximately 185 people in attendance who were able to participate in various ways to raise money for the event. Patrons had the opportunity to participate in raffles, basketball shootouts, and a plinko challenge for chances to win prizes, along-side the hourly prize draws. 23 items, made available through various sponsors, were also up for bid through the silent auction that ran throughout the night as well.

Grant Casswell has been a major contributor to organizing the event for the last seven years, which he said is nothing in comparison to some who have been with the Kindersley organization for 20 to 30 years.

Casswell said that last year was one of the best years they have had and after the numbers were tallied, this year’s banquet was even more successful grossing approximately $3,000 more.

The money raised throughout the evening will be used through Ducks Unlimited Canada to preserve the diminishing wetlands, Casswell stated that the majority will stay right here in our province to assist in wetland initiatives around Saskatchewan.

Damage to the Saskatchewan wetlands is estimated at 90 per cent, of which, Ducks Unlimited looks to restore to provide a healthy habitat for numerous birds and animals including, waterfowl, shorebirds, grassland songbirds, caribou, muskrats and pelicans.

Within the west central region, the organization has spearheaded conservation initiatives as close as Unity. They are able to purchase land and put caveats on it to protect it from damage and therefore preserve the wetland habitat and help sustain our natural wildlife.

In addition to raising money for a good cause, many guests spoke about how they always have a lot of fun at the event and it has become something that they look forward to every year.
