The Kindersley RCMP recently stated they have been receiving multiple calls of residents reporting a scam regarding their Social Insurance Number (SIN).

In the public alert by the RCMP, they state the callers "will identify themselves as a government official or a police officer and ask individuals to verify their SIN and banking information over the phone. They typically come across as aggressive and will use threats of police action in an attempt sound legitimate or gain personal information."

The Kindersley RCMP said the Canada Revenue Agency and other government departments do not conduct business in this way and will never request payments by money-transfer services, gift cards or digital currency.

Anyone that believes they have been the victim of a scam are urged to call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
