Local MP, David Anderson, has announced he will not be vying for a sixth term in office and will not be running in the upcoming election this fall. David Anderson has held the title of Member of Parliament for Cypress Hills Grasslands for nearly 20 years after being re-elected five times after initially taking office in 2000.

Anderson released the following statement regarding his decision to step down, “It has been an honour to serve the people of southwest Saskatchewan and I know I will miss doing so in the future. However, the time has come to step down and so I am announcing that I will not be a candidate in the upcoming election”.

Although he has worked on numerous actions, including marketing freedom for Western Canadian farmers, recently, Anderson has not been silent in his opposition of several the federal efforts including Bill C-69, Bill C-68 and Bill C-48 and has recently spoke at rallys and events, speaking to the residents and industry members, showing his support and thanking them for theirs.

Anderson said that he will still always be passionate about certain topics, whether it is the current state of the energy and agriculture industry or others and after October 21, 2019, it may not be in an official capacity, however, he said he will likely still be making his opinions and support known.

As for plans after office, Anderson shared that he and his wife, Sheila, are going to actually get to spend some time together, something he said that has been sparse over through his time as an MP, and he is very much looking forward to it.
