The Town of Outlook has issued an official response to various concerns raised by the recent deal with Loraas Disposal.

In mid-October, Outlook signed a two-year contract with Loraas, which has since been implemented as the town’s sole recycling service. When asked why this decision was made, the Town Council said that it was largely due to the fact that the market for recycled goods has been steadily declining, which would mean less revenues which the town relied on to operate the recycling depot.

“It was important to Council that we find a recycling program that would encourage our residents to continue recycling, and we believe that we have partnered with a company which will allow us to do that at a reduced cost.”

Loraas will be providing residents with curbside recycling pickup, as opposed to the previous setup, which had residents took their own recycling to various drop off locations across the town. The Town Council expects that this service will be more user friendly, as it does not require residents to sort recyclable materials themselves.

The Council also gave a response regarding Taylor Layton, who previously ran her own recycling business.

“Unfortunately, due to the closure of the recycling depot, Taylor Layton will no longer be able to sort the recyclables she picks up at our facility. We understand that this change greatly impactrs her, and have extended our willingness to pursue other available business avenues with her and her family.”

While the public reaction was initially tumultuous, the Council stated that the public have since become more open to the change, though there are still some who would have preferred that the previous depot remained open.

“We understand there will be an adjustment period, but we anticipate positive results and overall satisfaction with the level of service that will be provided. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work towards this change.”
