Over 400 tickets, warnings and warrants were recently issued to local motorists as a result of a three-day influx of officers in the area.

In the final week of March, motorists in the Kindersley and Rosetown area saw an increase of police presence as the Combined Traffic Services focused their attention to the area.

The Kindersley RCMP took to Facebook in the week leading up to what they referred to as a blitz, giving residents the heads up of the additional patrol vehicles that would be in the area and what they would be looking for.

Corporal Rob King, with the RCMP “F” Division media relations, stated that it wasn’t so much a blitz as focusing on a certain area of the province, which they do at random throughout the year, or when there is a possibility of increased activity due to a certain event.

The surplus of officers were in the area March 26-28 and handed out 186 tickets, 115 warnings, 100 vehicle inspection tickets, four criminal code warrants were executed and one vehicle was impounded.

Drivers who received a vehicle inspection ticket, for violations such as window tint, no mud flaps or other minor vehicle deficiencies, have a certain time frame to prove the work has been complete.

“They are given 30 days to have the work done and show up with the work done for a second vehicle inspection. If they don’t do that, the inspection is sent off to SGI and SGI will send them (the driver) a notice saying their insurance is immediately cancelled until they can show that work has been completed,” explained Cpl. King.

The 301 tickets and warnings include offences such as speeding, not stopping at stop signs and seatbelt infractions.
