Just across the border in the town of Oyen, approximately 500 crew members are starting to mobilize as the Keystone XL project moves forward.

TC Energy proposed a construction camp to the Town of Oyen and was heard through a virtual town council meeting on May 19 and was approved 10 days later.

Reports from the office of MLA for Drumheller-Stettler, Nate Horner, stated that crews have already began work in the area with Horner posting pictures of the equipment that started to arrive in Oyen at the beginning of the month.

According to TC Energy, phase one of the camp construction will last approximately 30 days and provide around 200 beds for workers. Phase two will see more construction to add 150 beds and phase three will add the final 150 beds.

When all is said and done, 500 beds between 133 modular buildings will fill the area and TC Energy said they anticipate on continuing operations through to December 2021.
