There's no word yet on the cause of the outage or expected return time.

"SaskPower is aware of significant outages impacting the city of Regina, areas to the south of that, right down to the southeast corner of the province, and areas to the west as well," said spokesperson Jordan Jackle. "We are aware of this. It could be a result of the frost that we've seen over the past number of days, which has really caused significant issues on our power lines, weighing them down, causing them to break.

"So right now what we're doing is two things - first of all we're determining who exactly is without power. We know it's a pretty large swath. Calls to the outage centre will help us pin that down. Second thing is figuring out exactly what the problem is. So we have crews out assessing that right now. We do know, again, that frost has had a significant impact on our infrastructure over the past number of days. We'll certainly be looking to see if any of our lines have been impacted more significantly than others."
