During the pandemic, several Fire Departments have decided to cheer up the children of their communities by holding birthday parades, and the Rosetown Department was no different.

Over the weekend, several vehicles and volunteers from the Rosetown fire Department performed a birthday parade for young Jone, who was just turning 8 years old.

Kimiko Otterspoor, a member of the Fire Department, was present for the celebration.

“They had balloons in the windows, and it looked like they were having a great time. It was really good to see a little family celebrating how they can in this time.”

Following social distancing guidelines meant that Otterspoor and other members of the Department were unable to closely interact with Jone, though it was clear the young boy was still excited to see the guests who had come to make his day a little more special.

Otterspoor said that this was about the 5th parade they’ve done, and also explained what exactly they do once they arrive at their destination.

“We’ve been taking the trucks out, of course, and then we get out of the trucks and sing Happy Birthday. It’s an evolving thing; we honestly just started it, so we’ll see what it ends up being in the end.”

As younger children may be less able to fully understand what’s going on in the world right now, a surprise visit from some local Firefighters will surely give them a birthday to remember.
