Rosetown’s Madison Wickett hit the runway, helping to raise money for a worthy cause. The grade 11 student, recently walked in a fashion show that raised funds for the Saskatoon Cancer Centre.

Wickett explained that she was asked to model fall looks in the Choc’ La Cure fashion show at Dutch Growers. Choc’ La Cure is a committee that raises funds with all proceeds going toward purchasing new equipment for the Saskatoon Cancer Centre.

The 16 year old was was signed by Stray Model Management earlier this year, along with Biggar’s Sydney Leschinski. She reported that the event raised an astonishing $21,700 and had some extra special models as well.

“It was really fun and I got to meet a lot of new people-half the people modelling the clothes were cancer patients as well so it was really cool to get to hear their stories,” said Wickett.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada and is responsible for 30% of all deaths. Like most people, Wickett has been touched by cancer herself.

“When I was in grade seven, my mom was diagnosed with stage two, triple negative breast cancer so it was very important to me to get to be a part of this, it meant so much.” Wickett shared, adding, “I know the people and the equipment at the Cancer Centre helped with my mom’s recovery and treatment, so it’s nice to know I could put something into what my mom needed so greatly.”

Wickett called the experience very rewarding and said she would love to be a part of the amazing event again if given the opportunity.
