Even though the weather has been cooperative these past few days, a storm chaser made his way down to Rosetown. Extreme Weather Videographer, Chris Chittick, was at the Elk's Hall on Wednesday night for a presentation about the dangers of the storms he chases.

The presentation was hosted by Rosetown's Emergency Measures Committee, which includes Rome Molsberry and Jessica Segal. The EMO Committee includes the areas of Rosetown, Zealandia, and the RMs of Marriot, Mountain View, Pleasant Valley and St. Andrews.

Chittick covered emergency preparedness in the case of extreme weather. While him and his crew chase tornadoes, hail, and hurricanes they keep safety as a top priority.

He noted they have a bullet proof vehicle to ensure their safety - something the average person probably does not have access to.

In an emergency, a person should be ready to evacuate or stay put, depending on the situation.

Storm Chaser, Chris Chittick.

In a Tornado:

If you are in a building, head to the basement or the most inner part of the house and lie flat.

If you are outside, head to the nearest building. If there is no available shelter, find a ditch or ravine to lie flat in, protecting your  head with your arms.

If you are driving, drive the opposite way of the storm.

In a Lightning Storm:

Stay indoors and away from windows, doors and electrical charge conductors. Unplug your electrical devices.

If you are caught outdoors, crouch down with your feet close together to minimize contact with the ground, and reduce the risk of being electrocuted by a ground charge.

Be Ready to Evacuate:

If the emergency or extreme weather is sever enough, you may have to evacuate. Leave immediately, only taking the necessities and your emergency kit.

Listen to the radio for updates or instructions on the situation. Follow routes specified by officials, if possible.

After a Disaster:

Right after an emergency, try to remain calm and check your surroundings.

Check on your neighbors and help the injured. Listen to the radio on a battery operated radio for updates.

Check the damage done to your home, including fires, hazards and gas or water leaks.
