On Sunday, residents of Rosetown were able to take part in the Harvest Hustle, as part of the Harvest Family Festival.

The Harvest Hustle is a short marathon where participants were able to choose between 2, 5, or 10 kilometres to run, walk, or jog. Participants had to pay an entry fee based on the run they chose, and this year’s proceeds will be going towards Rosetown Kid Kare.

Ryan Mollenbeck, one of the coordinators for the Harvest Hustle, explained why they chose Kid Kare to receive this year’s earnings.

“It’s just one of those organizations in town that nearly everyone uses, and they’re always in need of help to keep the program running so there’s affordable daycare here in town.”

Mollenbeck also shared the amount of people who took part in the run, and how much money they are expecting to raise.

“Usually we raise around 1500 to 2000 dollars. We have about 150-ish registered runners. That’s actually up; in previous years we were right around that 120, so we’re up a little bit this year.”

One factor about the Harvest Hustle that helps to make it special is the route. Instead of running around a track, participants are taken on a tour of the town, as Mollenbeck explains.

“The 5K and 10K course, they’re both the same, and it’ll take people just through town. Every year I set the course out on streets that look nice this time of year with the fall foliage, utilizing the Rose Trail, which is a real gem here in town, and just trying to take you through parts of town you may not normally take if you’re not into running, so just to see new parts of Rosetown.”

Each course only cost $10 to enter, and the Harvest Hustle began bright and early at 9:00 am on Sunday.
