Fire crews responded to a call in the early morning hours yesterday. The structure fire was reported at an apartment building on the north end of West Road in Kindersley.

Ron Hope, Kindersley Fire Chief, said the blaze was contained to a singular apartment and no injuries were reported as everyone was able to exit the building, likely thanks in large part to one citizen.

It was reported that one resident in the building was not aware of the fire until someone kicked in his door telling him he needed to vacate. Hope stated that the onlooker saw the fire, reported it to the department and proceeded to run inside to alert residents in the building. Hope was unable to comment on whether or not the fire alarm system was working properly as the power, as per protocol, had already been disconnected by the time crews arrived.

The damage sustained was widespread throughout the apartment in question and other units on the floor experienced extensive smoke damage and the floor below had water damage.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined as it is still under investigation.
