It was another exciting start to the weekend in the West Central Saskatchewan Sports World.

In the Canadian Open Grand Slam of Curling, the Men and Women's open took off at the Gallagher Centre in Yorkton on Friday.

The Women's Open saw Team Fleury from Sudbury Ontario win over team Rocque from Edmonton, gaining a total of 240 points.

Team Carey from Calgary Alberta scored a game of 6-2 beating team Sigfridsson of Sweden,  gaining a total of 280 points.

Both team Fleury and Carey are now off to the Women's semi-finals which kick off tonight at 6.30pm.

The Men's open saw an equally as exciting open on Friday.

Team Bottcher of Edmonton Alberta played a close game but lost against the Scottish team Murdoch in a score of 6-5.  Team Bottcher had a total of 260 points.

They now take on Team McEwn this morning.  The game starts at 7:30am.

Team Koe from Calgary Alberta won against Team Jacobs of Salt St. Marie Ontario.  The score was 5-3 with team Koe gaining a total of 266 points and 64 shots.

In the Sask Valley Hockey League, there was a lot of action on the ice.

The Beechy Bombers beat the Loreburn 19ers 11-2 which puts the Bombers at a record of 5-2.

The Bombers take on the Kenaston Blizzard tonight at 7:00pm at the Kenaston Arena, while the 19ers are set to face the Central Butte Flyers at the Central Butte Arena at 7:00pm.

The Central Butte Flyers won over the Rosetown Sask Valley Redwings, beating them 2-6. The Redwings' next game is up against the Loreburn 19ers, happening Sunday at 3:00pm in

the Rosetown Arena.

The Delisle Bruins won against the the Kenaston Blizzard, 8-2.  

The Bruins remain with a record of 6-1.

And the Eston Ramblers lost to the Dinsmore/ Lucky Lake Dynamoes in a score of 10-2.  The Dynamoes are standing at a 6-2 record.

And in the North Sask Female Hockey League, the Elrose Aces are going up against the Saskatoon Charger Comets in the Rod Hamm Memorial Arena today at 2:00pm.

The Chargers are going in with a 6-3 record.
