Saskatchewan residents who live outside of major centres will be among the big winners from changing medical technology according to Canada Health Infoway.

The federally-funded organization is helping the province pay for the switch to digital imaging, which means tests like x-rays, MRI's, and CT scans can be read instantly by specialists at other facilities.

They're already set up in the Saskatoon and Cypress Health Regions, and Infoway President and CEO Richard Alvarez says that the benefits to patients are enormous.

Alvarez also said that 80 % of the country will have these systems by next March.
