The 2021 Dusty Wheels Road Kill Cruise is set to go in Rosetown. Council approved the use of Main Street at their May Council meeting, and the local club went right to work preparing for the event on June 18th.

Car Clubs and their shows were greatly effected by the COVID-19 restrictions. Cruises and shows across western Canada did not occur in 2020. Many have again seen their 2021 editions cancelled as the pandemic drags on into the beginning of the 2021 car show season. With such a low number of events set to occur this year, Dusty Wheels representative Barry Churchman said they've been fielding a high number of calls for their June 18 event.

"We were at Lucky Lake the other weekend. That was the first event we have gone to this year, but there's still been a pile of cancellations. That's why I expect 100 cars because a lot of people haven't been able to go to anything. So I've had lots of phone calls from guys that have never been to roadkill cruise before. I expect about 100 cars to show up."

The event is expected to get underway shortly after 4:00pm, with things officially set to begin by 5:00pm. Those that are considering attending do need to be informed of the few health protocols the club needs to ensure are being followed. Masks aren't mandated for outdoor events but attendees do need to try and social distance.

"They're not really worried about people walking around that are social distancing. They don't want big crowds of people standing together talking. You can stand 6 feet away and have a conversation with somebody that's interested in your car. The big thing is that you're outside."

In years past the Alex Ositis Foundation would be on hand with a BBQ setup to feed those taking in the cars. The BBQ would help the foundation raise a few funds for local healthcare purchases. However due to COVID-19 the foundation will not be present this year, but food will still be available.

"The foundation will not be doing the hamburger thing. We will have a food truck there, but there is no sitting down to consume food. You can buy food from the food truck, but there's no place to sit down to eat. We're still hoping to have ice cream by the tourist centre. We will have to support the Ositis Foundation next year."

2021 will mark the 30th Anniversary of the Road Kill Cruise.
