Julie told us why she wanted to join the team.

"It was watching the TV show “Gilmore Girls” when I gained an interest in the career of journalism. In the show Rory Gilmore, the main character, goes through High school and University following her dream of becoming a journalist. I had never thought of journalism being a career choice for me until watching the show when the idea began to intrigue me.

I love learning new things! Being a journalist, I would learn new things everyday and never stop. The job would always be changing as there is a new story everyday I could follow.

I have always had an interest in the news, whether it be local stories, politics, or even celebrity gossip. My mother, who was always very much invested in the world of news stories, is who began my interest from a young age. It was also from her that I developed a love for writing.

English is one of my favourite classes as it touches on my main interests and skills. I plan to move forward in my schooling after I graduate in 2020 to expand on those skills and learn more so that I may apply them out in the world at a job I love.

Although I am not fully set on a career choice for when I leave High school I am very excited to be at West Central Online to expand my knowledge on the world of news and radio broadcast. It is opening my eyes to ideas I had not even thought of.

That is what work experience is; it’s a great opportunity to have. As I start making decisions about what my future will lead to; I am learning what is and what isn’t the right path for me. And so far, I am learning so much and enjoying every bit of it."
