It was the final matchup of the Kindersley Jr. A Klippers preseason schedule and a familiar foe was at the West Central Events Centre, as the Battlefords North Stars came to town.

The Stars took the play to the Klippers early, outshooting them by a wide margin, and if it wasn't for Cody Jaman, the score could have been lopsided.

The Klippers bounced back from a sluggish start and newcomer Zak Anderson picked up a North Stars giveaway and went five hole to give Kindersley a 1-0 lead which carried into the first intermission.

The teams stayed relatively even until the North Stars powerplay went to work, scoring just six seconds into to their first man advantage, as Bailey Shortall evened the score. That is the way it stayed heading into the second intermission.

The North Stars came out flying in the third period, with Lleyton McLean scored just 45 seconds in to give the Battlefords the lead. Despite getting a four-minute powerplay thanks to a kneeing infraction, the North Stars doubled their lead, as Jordan Grill finished a 2-0 rush and went upstairs on Logan Falk.

Kindersley did convert on a powerplay just shy of the halfway point of the third period, as Zak Anderson got his second on a nice setup from Jaydon Jessiman, with Brock Evans getting the other assist.

But that is as close as the Klippers would get, as the North Stars iced the game with an empty netter to win 4-2.

The two teams will start their regular season next week, with a home and home starting in the Battlefords on September 22, with the return matchup in Kindersley on September 23.
