The Town of Kyle has received some funding from the province to help plan out some things for the future.

Receiving this money from the $803,000 Targeted Sector Support Initiative will allow the Town to develop an Urban and Rural Assessment Plan. The goal and purpose of the plan are to help better manage existing infrastructure and other assets for the future.

Amber Dashney, town administrator for the Town of Kyle, pointed out how this investment will further existing expensive features in the community, like sewers, water lines, and streets.

"It gives us a better perspective on how to plan financially for down the road," said Dashney. "And to kind of have some type of a prediction for keeping our assets in good shape."

This plan, which will see an investment of $52,500 from the province, will be paid in part for by the Town. The remaining 25 per cent of the expense will run the town a total bill of $17,500.

This plan will also cover the RM of Lacadena, showing them a route to preventative maintenance for all the rural assets it wants to extend the life of.

Part of the appeal of a plan like this is it will lay out a road map for future town councils and Mayors to follow. It will help to ensure that new bodies won't mean a return of old problems.

"We're very grateful that we are receiving this grant because having an asset management plan does help you with being able to apply for other grants to upkeep your infrastructure," said Dashney. "It's a great thing that we are able to get this done, and we'll be able to use it for a long time."
