As we focused on the history of baseball in the community of Eston last week, we shift our attention to another baseball hot bed in the West Central region, Unity.

Much like the Eston Ramblers, the Unity Cardinals joined the SMBL in 1975, and before that they were part of the Northern Saskatchewan Baseball League, where they won championships in 1966, 1967 and 1970.

The facilities remain top notch in the west central community, as they continue to hold provincial baseball and softball championships, with 2023 being no exception, as the U18 Cardinals will be hosting U18 AA Tier 4 provincials from July 21-23.

Also, back in town for the 2023 season are the Unity Sr. Cardinals, as they joined the NSRBL after a brief hiatus. The team is currently in the semi-finals of the league, after a first round series win over the Lloydminster Twins in two straight games.

Before the 2023 season, the Unity Jr. Cardinals program took part in the NSRBL as well. The Jr. Cards were made up of kids aged 18-21, and good chunk of them are now on the Sr. Cardinals for 2023.
