A fun event for a good cause is coming up in Coleville. "Surf and Turf for Tots" is coming the evening of April 13 to the community, being put on by the Coleville Licensed Daycare Developmental Committee.

Coleville's Kathyrn Sproule is the Chairperson of the Coleville Community Endowment Fund, the group that houses the daycare committee, and talked more about the event coming up.

"It's to benefit the new licensed daycare homes that we are working at getting up and running in Coleville."

Sproule says the daycare project has been on their agenda for a while now, as over the past year they have purchased two residential properties in town, and are currently in the process of renovations.

"So they will be suitable to be run as day-homes in Coleville. The homes will be owned by a community non-profit organization, and we will lease them out to qualified operators to run daycare in Coleville, and become licensed."

The childcare spaces will be greatly appreciated. It's a problem facing a lot more places than just the small community of Coleville.

"Coleville is under the same pressure as many of the communities in the area for daycare. We have far more children needing care, than we have providers in town. We are in the same boat as everyone else, and felt if we didn't address the problem right in our town, it was just going to create more pressures on surrounding communities as well. Quite frankly, all their licensed care is full as well."

It will still take some time to see a difference, but the important part is Coleville already has the ball rolling.

"We felt it was time. Just a number of things fell in place all at the same time to make it work this time around. We have tried it before, but it seems to be coming together this time."

Sproule finished the interview off with more on the event itself, as the surf and turf isn't the only thing on the menu.

"Supper is followed by a silent auction, and we hope to have some DJ'd music a little later in the evening for people."

Some tickets may still be available for purchase at the town office. Everything you need to know on the event can be found in the poster below.
