Food banks around the area recently got some nice donations towards their monetary and inventory interests from a local energy company. Most wouldn't be where they are today without the committed organizations within the communities they operate.

The Kindersley and District Food Bank were blown away with a recent hefty donation from Gibson Energy.

Always wanting to help, Gibson Energy wanted to take their efforts one step further this year. The energy company with trucks frequenting the area spearheaded a food drive that began on World Hunger Day (May 28) and ran until June 20.

Gibson Energy employee Bevan Mann was the contact for the food drive targeting a good number of local communities.

"We wanted to do more, so we came up with the idea to do a food drive and it became quite successful this year."

The above totals prove their time was worth it. Bevan talked a little more about the specifics.

"Items were donated to a few different food banks. It was kind of split up," said Mann before sharing the totals. "We had over 5400 items in total throughout all the communities, and nearly $5000 in cash donations. It was a good year one for it."

They fell short of the 10,000 item goal where they would have surprised ten families with a $1000 gift card in addition to food. With the tremendous success of a first year operation, Mann has his hopes up for reaching the milestone next year.

Mann gave this thank-you to everyone involved courtesy of the Gibson team.

"Big thanks to all the towns," mentioned Mann as Kerrobert, Coleville, Kindersley, Brock, Eston, Elrose, and Rosetown were the communities on the list. "It was a pretty wide area we have drop-off bin locations. Very thankful for everyone that helped out with it."

They aren't stopping at the food drive. Mann shared about another one of the companies community interest projects that will again provide some donations later this year.

"Gibson does numerous things throughout all the communities we work around. Last year my team took the initiative to grow some produce in a community garden out by one of our facilities."

Gibson and their dedicated employees should be eager to top local food banks up once again this fall with some fresh fruit and vegetables.
