The next 25 days will be busy for hunters in Saskatchewan as big game draw submissions are now open.

Residents have until midnight on May 25th to send their applications online using a HAL account. This year's draw will feature licenses for elk, moose, pronghorn, and both male and female mule deer and antlerless mule deer.

Due to the amount of traffic expected on the website closer to the 25th, people are asked to submit their applications as early as possible to prevent system outages. On the final day last year, the website received over 11,000 applications, an increase from 7,000 on the final day of 2015.

In total, 92,000 applications were sent in last year, which was up from 71,445 in 2015.

A few points for residents to consider before sending in their applications:

  • Applicants should review results from previous draws to assist with selecting hunt choices. This can help improve their draw selection chances since certain hunts will have higher numbers compared to others. Hunters can view these numbers on the website.
  • Over-the counter archery mule-deer and moose season dates will remain unchanged this year. The ministry will consult with hunters and other groups ahead of the 2018 seasons.
  • The pronghorn draw is looking to expand in order to include their core range in southwest Saskatchewan.

The results of the draw will be made available through email and/or HAL accounts by mid-June, except for pronghorn entries, which will be available in mid-July. Licenses will be available for purchase through HAL accounts for those who are successful from the draw.
