Biggar recently held its first ever Bridal Showcase event, helping to support local crafts-people.

At the beginning of December, guests filed in to the Biggar Community Hall for the event, which helped hopeful brides to plan out their ideal wedding. Offering their services were photographers, travel agents, caterers, videographers, decorators and hairdressers. The general aim was to have all the essentials of a wedding in one convenient spot.

Marcy Ellis, who put this event together, helps to explain what the main goal for the Bridal Showcase was.

“The purpose was to showcase that we have lots of talent in small towns. It seems like most people want to head to the city or go online for stuff, but we have some wonderful talent in small towns, and that’s basically what I wanted to do; showcase them.”

While Ellis considered the event as a whole a success, she had hoped to see a larger turnout. This was the first time this event was ever held, and Ellis had conceived of the idea for a Bridal Showcase back in Spring. She believes that the timing of this event may not have been the best, due to how close it was to the Holiday Season.

Fortunately, Ellis is open to constructive criticism.

“For sure I want to do it again. I just want to get some feedback and see what I think is right, and what other people, you know it’s always nice to see what they could come up with for ideas.”

While the event didn’t go exactly as Ellis was hoping, the Biggar Bridal Showcase was still well attended, and Ellis was impressed with how professional it turned out, regarding both the vendors and the guests.
