The lakes will be full with people taking out their boats to enjoy the August long weekend but many people do not realize the danger that comes along with boating.

Water Safety Program advisor for Western Canada Kevin Peas explains that the most common mistake people make is not wearing a life jacket while on the water.

Peas says that life jackets are required to be worn by law, there must be one proper sized and functional life jacket for every person that is on the boat.

Another big problem in boating safety lies within alcohol and drug use while on the water which increases the chance of boating collisions and other accidents.
