Many Canadians will be celebrating this upcoming weekend as the nation turns 150 years old. This means a lot of people will be travelling to different locations throughout the weekend to take in the festivities.

Last year, the July long weekend was steady for law enforcement in the Kindersley, Eston, and Kerrobert area in terms of calls for service. Kindersley RCMP believe the reasoning for a less busier Canada Day weekend in 2016 was due to residents leaving the area for other destinations.

But, with the number of events taking place in west central Saskatchewan for Canada's 150th anniversary, it may very well be a different story for this year.

One of the largest concerns for police this weekend will be surveying the roads for impaired and dangerous driving behaviours. RCMP plan to be out monitoring highways and municipalities throughout the weekend as there will be a higher volume of traffic on the roads.

Vandalism and theft were other problems RCMP dealt with during Canada Day weekend last year. Since some residents will be going away for the weekend, police are reminding people to assure their homes and possessions are locked and secured.

On behalf of the staff from West Central Online, have a safe and fun Canada Day weekend!
