The Kindersley Jr. Klippers season is officially underway after a 4-0 loss on Friday night against the Battlefords North Stars, and a 5-3 win rebound in the Saturday rematch.

The first game of the season at the West Central Events Centre was just one part of a busy week for the Kindersley Jr. Klippers. The Klippers named their captain, and did some community work in between splitting their first two games of the season.

Before their first game on the road Friday against the North Stars, Kindersley's own Logan Linklater was announced as team captain.

Before settling in Kindersley, Linklater played parts of three seasons with the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders and Regina Pats for a total of 62 games. Linklater has spent equal time now playing Junior A in Kindersley, collecting 56 points in 63 games for his hometown team.

Outside of Linklater and the crew picking up a 1-1 record on the ice, the Klippers were busy outside the rink as well.

Things got underway with an appearance in the Goose Festival parade early Saturday morning in Kindersley, and then on Sunday the players were helping volunteer for the team's golf event.

The Klippers did see a nice offensive performance in their home opener after being held scoreless Friday on the road.

There is a three-way tie for the scoring lead with Logan Cox and Cash Arntsen both scoring twice, and Danton Cox picking up two helpers. Goaltenders Cody Jaman and Logan Falk split the load in net both allowing 3+ goals in their appearances.

The Klippers now have a full week of practice ahead of them as they prepare for the first road trip of the season. Kindersley will be in Nipawin on Friday night to face the Hawks, and then have a Saturday night matchup against the Melfort Mustangs.

Hockey fans will have to wait a few weeks for the next Klippers home game. Kindersley will embark on the road for two more games on the road in Estevan the weekend of October 5 and 6, before opening up a weekend doubleheader of their own October 13 and 14 when the Melfort Mustangs come to town.
