I know a guy who's waiting for a hip replacement surgery. He's growing impatient.

That said, the numbers show we're catching up.

Our government is boasting about a "new surgical record" this week, telling us close to 72,000 procedures were performed from April 1st through December 31st.

So, by my calculation, that's 274 days and exactly 71,850 surgeries, that's an average of 262 procedures performed per day in Saskatchewan. That's impressive, isn't it?

I think we forget sometimes how privileged we are.

I know a woman who arrived in Saskatchewan from Africa a little over 20 years ago. She escaped a war-torn country and famine. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer within a couple of years after settling in Saskatchewan.

She had surgery - successful surgery. She was so grateful for the care she received. She thanked her God for her good fortune every day afterward.

I'll bet she still does that.
