An update has been provided by the Town of Kindersley about the gas leak which occurred in downtown Kindersley yesterday. Town of Kindersley Deputy Administrator Kim Vogel, explains.

“A gas occurred in the back lane between 5th Ave and 6th Ave East and to ensure the safety of residents and the business owners in the area, a perimeter control was put in place and actually some locations were evacuated,” Vogel said. “The incident occurred mid-morning and SaskEnergy worked diligently to repair the line. Power was also shut down in the area to ensure that the risk of possible ignition sources was reduced. Power was restored around 5:00 PM, and at that time that's when they deemed that the area was safe. The Town conditionally thanks SaskEnergy for their quick response and the Kindersley Fire Department in assisting with perimeter control.”

She then talked about how the leak occurred.

“The leak was caused by excavation, but the excavation was actually occurring in the back lane that's directly behind 608 Main St so it wasn't for the new development, it was just excavation that was happening in the back lane,” Vogel added.

Thankfully the situation stayed under control, and no one was injured.
