The Delisle Chiefs have been making some moves to their roster ahead of the upcoming PJHL season. Three new players came by way of the West Central Rage dispersal draft. The team made another trade, a two-for-two with Fort Knox, and also spent some time at the Western Elite Hockey Showcase camp down in Edmonton. To cap off the summer, Delisle was named host of this year's PJHL All Star Game.

The Chiefs must have been enamoured with the talent available from the Rage, as they completed 2 trades to gain extra picks in the draft.

The Chiefs traded with the Southern Rebels, a team who sat last year out like the Rage, for the first pick of the draft and they selected forward Dallas Galloway. He had 2 points in 4 games for the Rage during last years shortened season, and had 33 points in 32 games back in 2019 while playing with the Beardy’s Blackhawks U18AA.

The Chiefs kept their selection at #9 in the draft to select another forward in Adam Horner. He finished the shortened season with 1 assist in 6 games, and his last active season was 13 games with the SWHL’s Hafford Hawks, where he had 4 goals and 2 assists in 13 games played.

The third pick of the group from Kerrobert came through a trade with the Prince Albert Titans, where the Chiefs shipped away two players in Alec Nieman and Brady Scheu to acquire Dodsland native Troy Joyce. The 6’2 forward played 3 seasons with the Rage, collecting 27 points in 61 games played.

me recently with his scouting cap on. He attended the Western Elite Hockey Showcase in Edmonton, and explained a little bit about what it was.

“It’s a player identification camp. The program that puts it on runs on in both Edmonton and Calgary. It’s mainly players from Alberta, some from BC, some from Saskatchewan. It’s just a way to invite scouts from all over western Canada to give these guys a look to see where they may fit.”

Ditto admitted attending the showcase can help get the club some more exposure as well, but with the current moves being made it seems like they are going to try and accomplish that extra attention by just winning games.

The Chiefs will open up their season on September 21st against the Saskatoon Royals, and the Chiefs can’t wait to get their captain Chad Westman back on the ice after watching him sport orange all summer long playing baseball with the Kindersley Stallions.

Westman is going to be returning to the Chiefs as a 21 year old, though he is likely going to miss out on a historic PJHL milestone in the process.

“If he would have got a full season (last season) I don’t think there would have been any possible way he wouldn’t have broke the record for most games played in the league,” explained Ditto, “I would have to crunch some numbers, but I don’t know if he will be able to get there.”

The Chiefs front office as well as Westman’s teammates have to be thrilled to have their captain back for this year, and Ditto couldn’t stress enough how rare it is to see a player in Junior B from 16 all the way to 21 years old.

“16-21? that’s pretty crazy. When you can have a three year captain that is pretty cool.”

The biggest news on the PJHL docket since the Rage’s exit for the year has been the release of their schedule. As mentioned Delisle opens their season against the rival Royals on September 21st, but the season gets underway 10 days earlier in White City when the Regina Silver Foxes take on Fort Knox on September 11th.
