With cooler temperatures, wet and icy roads SGI has released some tips to make this Winter's driving as safe as possible.

On average, Saskatchewan sees around 8500 collisions a year when conditions are poor. Most of the accidents were caused my vehicles going into a skid. Of those 8500 accidents there is an average of 1500 injuries and 21 deaths annually.

Some tips to avoid skidding are not using cruise control on wet and slippery roads, scan the road to identify potential hazards, and ensure your vehicle has proper tires. And as always, maintain a safe, three second following distance,

In the event of a skid, shift your vehicle intro the neutral gear and apply steady pressure to the breaks. Look where you want to go and above all, remain calm.
