The Dr. Stewart Holmes Scholarship Fund committee will be celebrating 30  years of supporting local students at their annual tea held on Saturday, November 21st. Every year the committee awards a scholarship to students from the local area to Eston, that have joined in any field of health care. Students that study fields from Chiropractic to dental services are all eligible for the scholarship once the necessary requirements of the criteria are met. Recipients of the Dr. Stewart Holmes Scholarship must be enrolled in a post secondary program and must be from the local area.

The tea will be held at the Eston Medical Clinic starting at 10:00 a.m., with a large crowd expected due to past recipients of the Dr. Stewart Holmes Scholarship attending. The fund first began in 1985, with the first ever scholarships being presented in 1986. A total of 135 recipients have been awarded with the scholarship since then, with the 2015 class of recipients reaching eight students.

Students that will be receiving awards for this year's Dr. Stewart Holmes Scholarship Fund are: Erin Bruce of Elrose who is enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSCN) at the University of Regina, Brett Leanne Day of Kyle who is enrolled in BSCN in Red Deer College, Ashley Healey of Eston also a BSCN student at the University of Regina, Shauna Hodgins BSCN students at the Medicine Hat College, Kiera Hughes of Eston who is enrolled in the University of Toronto obtaining her masters in speech pathology, Erika King of Eatonia at the University of Saskatchewan for a Bachelor in Pharmacy , Nancy Peters of Eston and is obtaining a doctorate in physical therapy at the Texas Woman's University, and finally Cheyenne Trytten of Kyle enrolled in Saskatchewan's Polytechnic to obtain a certificate in licensed practical nursing.

Guests are invited to stay for refreshments and snacks before all the recipients are presented with their scholarships, with the full program lasting only approximately 90 minutes.

Committee members Cheryl Hughes and Pat Johnston will be stepping down this year, due to each committee member only be able to serve a maximum of nine consecutive years or three consecutive terms. Past committee members can rejoin, but only after a one year break.
