Berk Jodoin's music career has quite literally been taking him in all different directions over the past year.

After the Leader based great white north musician took a trip down south to Kansas City earlier in 2023, Jodoin is spending the week out east at the Folk Music Ontario conference in London, Ontario, before quickly turning west for the weekend to perform at Breakout West in Kelowna.

Jodoin departed for Ontario on Wednesday for his performance on Thursday, with plans to jet back west to BC for shows Friday and Saturday with some special guests.

"(Performed) Solo in Ontario, but I will have a few band members with me in Kelowna, so that will be pretty cool." said the local singer/songwriter.

These travel plans were quite the undertaking for the local musician as Jodoin and his manager took a hard look at the schedule. With time change in their favour moving east to west, the flights were booked, and Jodoin was locked in for a big week of music.

"We determined it wasn't impossible, but that it was going to be a challenge." said Jodoin as logistical gymnastics were going to have to rule the day. "Two shows in one day in London, last one around 10:30 at night, and then the next evening in Kelowna for a show at 7:00 PM."

Each show provides the chance for Jodoin to perform in front of some eager music minds. While he was already slated to play the show in Kelowna, his appearances in Ontario were a direct result of connections made down in Kansas City at the Folk Alliance International music conference back at the beginning of 2023.

A cross country trip doing what he loves is just the latest thing on the path for the local musician, who has done a good job keeping things in perspective.

"I believe I'm on a certain, trajectory, I guess. Obviously I still hold my day job and have my family commitments." said Jodoin on the gradual climb his career has been on. "I signed with a label out of Toronto, and my manager is super helpful. Without proper management I would be in trouble." he laughed.

Jodoin is just doing his best to seize the opportunities in front of him, willing and eager to take any challenge the world of music throws his way.

"It's like going back to the old hockey days. If the right person sees you on the right night, you have have a good chance of moving to the next level."

As Jodoin returned home there were a boatload of new experiences to share, but most importantly as you can see above, a new song to his name.

"(We released) our first single off the new album."

Creating his own new 'sound' was a big emphasis for Jodoin in the studio this time around.

"We changed the sound completely of what I was doing in the past. I changed studios, co-produced the new album. It's more of the sound I hear in my head."
