They may have a couple games in hand on everybody else in the White Mud Hockey League, but the Eatonia Huskies are currently the first place team in the league entering 2024.

Two wins on the road prior to the new year helped the Huskies leap to the top of the standings, a 9-3 win against the Maple Creek Hawks on Friday, and an 8-2 win over the Frontier Flyers Saturday. The offensive explosions came courtesy a balanced attack from Eatonia, though a few performances certainly stuck out.

Friday night's game was headlined by a six point night for BJ Somerville, scoring a hat-trick and assisting on three other Huskies markers. Cooper Bowman and Jonathan Guidinger each scored and had four points themselves. Quinton Somerville, Bobby Hudec, and Turner Somerville were the Huskies other goal scorers.

Successfully out-doing themselves with a nine goal effort Saturday, five assists from Turner Somerville headlined an otherwise team effort as goals from BJ Somerville, Patrick Ehnisz, Mitch Larock, Hudec, and Taylen Solvberg joined a Cooper Bowman hat-trick on the scoreboard.

Turner Somerville currently leads the team in points by a wide-margin with 22. Somerville is first in assists with 15, and BJ Somerville leads the Huskies in goals with 9, sitting tied for second in points with Taylen Solvberg at 15 total. Goaltenders Brendan Ritchie and Jacob Tuplin split the weekend net-minding duties. Luke Sproule and Garrit Beechinor have also appeared in games between-the-pipes for the Huskies this season.
