Eatonia Mayor Steven Schwartz attended his first Saskatchewan Urban Municipaities Association (SUMA) convention in Saskatoon this month. Five Eatonia councillors joined Schwartz at the SUMA convention and got to network with delegates and learn form other municipalities.

Schwartz spoke about some issues brought up at the annual convention that will affect Eatonia.

The biggest news of the four day convention was from Premier Brad Wall who announced the provincial deficit is now over $1.25 billion.

This year's convention also saw Gordon Barnhart, who is a councillor in the Town of Saltcoats, elected as the new president of SUMA.

Schwartz believes Barnhart was elected because of his experience, and the time he has to dedicate to the municipalities as president.

The keynote speech from curler Joan McCusker who also grew up in Saltcoats was a highlight from the convention.
