World War II veteran, Clifford R. MacDonald is being named "Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour" by the government of France. This award is the highest decoration France can bestow upon an individual. It is the equivalent to the Order of Canada, which is the cornerstone of the Canadian Honours System. The award is given to surviving veterans that helped liberate France and MacDonald is Erose's only veteran to receive this medal.

Before the war MacDonald and his wife Betty farmed and raised a family on some land north of Elrose in Forgen, Saskatchewan. He joined the military in 1941 and was shipped straight to Germany. Now he has two sons who still farm and two daughters, one is Rosetown and one in Saskatoon.

Honorary French Consul to Saskatoon, Vincent Martin will be presenting the medal. The event will be hosted by the Elrose Royal Canadian Legion and will take place in the Elrose Composite School Gymnasium. The ceremony will take place on Sunday April 10th, in the morning at 11:30 and everyone is welcome to come free of charge. There will be a dinner following the ceremony for members of MacDonald's family only.
